Sam A. Baker State Park
It only takes a few minutes to fall in love with Sam A. Baker State Park. The cool waters of the St. Francois River and Big Creek frame a wooded setting with trails that range from easy to challenging. Ancient mountains, towering trees, and fresh air are hallmarks of the park. Rustic cabins, a campground, a separate campground for equestrians, and a lodge with good country cookin’ round out the Sam A. Baker experience.
Had I experienced more of the park I'd probably rate it five stars. We were here to camp with friends and used a family site. Everything worked as expected at the campsite. Folks were friendly all around. The park store had a ton of cool stuff I didn't expect. Trails were nice; we hiked a little. River access was plentiful and easy. Our only beef was the daily maintenance of the women's restroom at around 7 or 8 am. Everyday. For 30-40 minutes. Seemed excessive and poorly timed. I'd totally go back though. :)
Nice park with river access for canoes, drafts, and kayaks. Restaurant and store on site as well as a small museam. Many trails for hiking and equestrian and a bike bath between campgrounds. They also do a great Halloween festival.
Beautiful park. Excellent hiking. Big Creek is wonderful. Love this place!
Beautiful park. Camping was perfect. Clean and safe. Trees beautiful.
Been going to Sam Baker since I was a baby until a teenager. Went back this summer with the cousins and grandparents, 15+ years later and it's still just as wonderful as I remembered! Can't wait for the next trip. Cabins are equipped with most everything you need, beds aren't very comfortable to me, too firm of a mattress. Plenty of space in the cabin for you and the family/friends. Don't forget your water shoes! See ya again soon Sam A. Baker!
