Sam A. Baker State Park
It only takes a few minutes to fall in love with Sam A. Baker State Park. The cool waters of the St. Francois River and Big Creek frame a wooded setting with trails that range from easy to challenging. Ancient mountains, towering trees, and fresh air are hallmarks of the park. Rustic cabins, a campground, a separate campground for equestrians, and a lodge with good country cookin’ round out the Sam A. Baker experience.
Had I experienced more of the park I'd probably rate it five stars. We were here to camp with friends and used a family site. Everything worked as expected at the campsite. Folks were friendly all around. The park store had a ton of cool stuff I didn't expect. Trails were nice; we hiked a little. River access was plentiful and easy. Our only beef was the daily maintenance of the women's restroom at around 7 or 8 am. Everyday. For 30-40 minutes. Seemed excessive and poorly timed. I'd totally go back though. :)
Great camping and other facilities. So much to do in the park. Swimming, horseback riding, playgrounds, floating, tons of trails for bike or run. All in a valley surrounded by the St. Francis mountains deep in the Ozarks. My favorite!!
Been going to Sam Baker since I was a baby until a teenager. Went back this summer with the cousins and grandparents, 15+ years later and it's still just as wonderful as I remembered! Can't wait for the next trip. Cabins are equipped with most everything you need, beds aren't very comfortable to me, too firm of a mattress. Plenty of space in the cabin for you and the family/friends. Don't forget your water shoes! See ya again soon Sam A. Baker!
Fantastic bike/ walking trails. Shady campsites. Clean river for swimming. Park ranger offer programs for adults and children. Playground. Cabins. Small store. Float trips available.
Big park, great campgrounds, restrooms are old and not cleaned throughly by staff, good park store. River is very peaceful and cool.
