Conception Abbey, located in Conception, Missouri, is a monastery of the Swiss-American Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation. The monastery, founded by the Swiss monastery, Engelberg Abbey in 1873 in northwest Missouri's Nodaway County. It was raised to a conventual priory in 1876 and elevated to an abbey in 1881. The Abbey church, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception was dedicated in 1891. At present, the community numbers around sixty monks who celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours and the Eucharist daily and who staff and administer Conception Seminary College, the Printery House, and the Abbey Guest Center. Monks also serve as parish priests and hospital chaplains in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph.
Beautiful place. Must come visit!
Very welcoming inspirational attending mass today
A beautiful place to visit and to find someone quite in a busy and loud world.
Conception Abbey is the perfect place for prayer, whether you want to do it alone or with others. The brothers are personable and love to meet guests. I visit regularly, and will always come back.
This is a monetary of Catholic Benedictine brothers and priests. Along with a seminary college and guest/retreat buildings. They have approximately 1,000 acres of land in beautiful Northwest Missouri. A very spiritual place to come and "take a look at who we are, where we are, and what were doing. The way we see the world determines how we live our lives (Matthew Kelly)."
