Exhibition - Altered Mixed Assembled
Gray Finch - Acrylic Mixed Media
Art has been my mantra for interconnection; encouraging my exploration of concepts such as reincarnation and a reverence for the animal kingdom. Since I began my journey as an artist, my work has evolved into interpretation and expression of my spirituality: my exploration of Buddhism, Western philosophy and evolution. My body of work is a manifestation of an Alchemy process that is nuanced, poetic and mystical.
John Freise - Sculptural Assemblage
John is a self-taught artist who has worked in a variety of mediums over the past twenty plus years. He has done a number of exhibits and art shows throughout the country. More recently, in the past five years, he has worked as a mixed media, assemblage artist who works primarily with repurposed and recycled materials.
John describes his work as controlled chaos, something that may appear out of control but which functions according to unseen rules or organization. He believes in incorporating lost, forgotten and discarded objects to create his works of art. This could include a combination of maps, old books, remnants of fabric and found objects, just to name a few.
The universe inspires John to create. Along with the gift of creativity and the many intriguing things and objects he has found along his journey, he is able to share his love and passion of art with you.
Jahna Kahrhoff - Repurposed Textiles
Fabric is made to hold and cover things for us. Sacks hold grain we feed our animals, cement we use to build our homes, or letters and packages we send each other. Fabric covers our bodies, our beds, and our kitchen tables. I hunt through thrift shops for secondhand fabric or clothing with interesting colors and patterns. I also stop at antique malls on a regular basis and have found old flour and seed sacks, bank coin bags, U.S. mail bags, and vintage notions like lace. Each bag that I make grows organically from the textiles that I find, giving new life to once was used to hold and cover something else. The style, size, and features of each bag, depend on the dimensions of the textiles I find, as well as any graphics or works that are printed on them.
Dr. Jahna Kahrhoff is owner of Urban Sewing, a small business dedicated to making unique and conscientiously crafted bags and accessories from vintage, upcycled, and repurposed textiles. In her professional life, Dr. Kahrhroff has 27 years’ experience as a distance learning administrator and instructor in higher education. She is currently Assistant Dean of Curriculum at Purdue University Global and has been with University for over 10 years. Dr. Kahrhoff has a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Art from Rutgers University, a Master’s degree in Information and Communication Sciences from Ball State University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Ellen Klamon - Mixed Media
Trained as serigrapher, my tendency is to work in multiples, producing works in a series. My mediums of choice are drawing, painting, collage, encaustic, and photography. I often add three dimensional pieces such as wood or found objects.
Color, shape, and design are the hallmarks of all my work, whether two dimensional or three. Viewed together it is easy to see the continuity between the mediums. Ellen has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Maryville University.
